This tutorial will guide you during configuration of IronKey H80 External Hard Drive.
Plug your H80 drive into USB port, and open Application Drive. On my computer, it is G: drive. Run start.exe.
Now you have two options to personalize your drive, typical or custom. Typical uses predefined values, custom uses custom values :-). Let's choose custom...
Choose type of authentication method. Since this drive supports only password, we have only one option. If you require biometric authentication, check IronKey H200 External Biometrick Hard Drive.
Choose number of users that will use this drive. Each user will have his own partition. This partition will be invisible for another users. Only Administrator of drive will be able to access all partitions, but only by reseting password for that particular user. In our case, we choose one user. You may choose if you want to destruct data after multple failed authentication attempts. Be carefull when selecting this. This is also true for next checkbox - Disable Administrator's Account. If you choose this option, and you will forget password for drive user, there will be no one to recover it and all your data will be lost. Next checkbox will allow to see user names of users of this drive before authentication. It may be usefull if you have more similar drives in your company/household. Just connect drive to any computer, and check assigned user names.
This page allows you to set password policies for users of this drive. Values in screeshot are for weak password policies. I encourage you to set much stronger policies. If you have any question about it, leave a comment under this tutorial.
Now is the fun part of configuration: we are going to create three passwords, so make sure you will remember each.
This one is probably the most important. If you forget management code, there is no way how to recover it. And as far as I know, even Imation is NOT able to recover it.
You will need this code when you have forgot administrator password (see next step). After using this code, your drive will be set to factory defaults and all users and data will be erased.
Create administrator password. This password will be mainly used to manage users and rcover their passwords. If you forget this password, your only option is to recycle device using management code.
Enter user name and password for this user. This is the name that was mentioned in step 3(checkbox - Hide Usernames before authentication). This password will be used everytime you will want to use this hard drive and access data on your partition.
Congratulations! You've just configured your H80 hard drive.
