Create Server Cluster in Windows 2008
vytvoril ares, 08. 03. 2012Creating a new cluster involves inspecting the potential members of the cluster to ensure that they meet a solid baseline configuration and then starting the cluster service on each so that resources are managed across the machines and not individually on each machine.
First, of course, you will need to install the Failover Clustering feature. From Server Manager, click Features in the left pane, and then click Add Features in the main window. The Add Features Wizard loads. On the Features page, check the Failover Clustering box and click Next, and then on the confirmation page, click the Install button. You'll be able to monitor the progress of the installation from there.
Next, you'll need to validate the hardware configuration you've selected for your cluster. The validation process examines the hardware on the servers that will make up the cluster, ensuring that they are set up to fail over correctly in the event of an error. To validate, you will need local administrator rights to each of the members of the cluster. To begin:

Open Failover Cluster Management from the Administrative Tools menu off the Start menu, and then click "Validate a Configuration" in the Management section of the main window.

Acknowledge the warnings on the first screen and click Next.

Enter the names of the servers that will make up your cluster—one by one—and click Add. The names will appear in the white box. Once you have added all of the servers to the list, click Next.

On the Testing Options screen, choose "Run all tests" to ensure maximum compatibility with your configuration, and then click Next.

The Confirmation screen appears. Confirm the settings, which essentially list the workflow the validation wizard will go through to probe the compatibility of the potential server cluster members, and then click Next to begin the tests.

The validation tests run. This can take around five minutes per server for reasonably powered machines, although your times will almost certainly differ. Once the tests are complete, you'll be presented with the Failover Cluster Validation Report, which lists the tests that were run and also properties of each of the potential members of the server cluster you want to create. You can view the report as a full HTML-based page by clicking the View Report button. Otherwise, click Finish.

On the "Access Point for Administering the Cluster" screen, enter the name you want to use to administer the cluster—for example, DCS for domain controllers, MAIL for your email servers, and so on. Click Next.

The Confirmation screen appears. Here, verify your settings and then click Next.

Once the creation of the server cluster is complete, the Summary screen will appear. You can click View Report for an extensive list of all actions the wizard took to configure the cluster. Click Finish to exit the wizard.
